HP Fortifies Application-Security Services

So much for Fortify’s plans to go public.

This morning the software-security-assurance company was acquired by Hewlett-Packard (HPQ). Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, but this was clearly a small acquisition for HP. Fortify was founded in 2003 on a $40 million investment from Kleiner Perkins. That said, it’s an important one that will allow HP to intergrate vulnerability-assessment and security-assurance services into its Software and Solutions business, and better compete with rival IBM (IBM), which acquired Fortify rival Ounce Labs last summer.
